My favorite type of project is engaging with a home which has been in a state of falling beauty.  As the years go by, even impeccable elegance gets a little worn around the edges: wallpaper fades and peels, woodwork becomes scuffed, cracks appear out of nowhere, light fixtures and finishes begin to show their age.  Let’s face it — we all need a cosmetic overhaul after the decades have passed us by.  This home needed an injection of loving care and a face lift!

I began by refinishing the floors to a dark rich patina — perfect for today’s aesthetic.  Then prep, prep, prep and paint, paint, paint!

Off with the dated wallpaper — out with the ghastly rusted fixtures, even the Wolf range had to be resurfaced!  Beat up counters were replaced with white marble, nickel handles installed and a statement making chandelier as focal point breathed life into the incredible cook’s kitchen and butler pantry.  But – (boo hoo) – the linoleum over fir floors was too big a task to remove. But even it gleamed with a coat of polish and a sisal area rug.  The switch plates were corroded and begged for Rejuvenation’s antique reproduction bronzed plates — you can bet they cost more than a salvage yard find!  But the result of all the work was breathtaking.  The before and after remarkable.  Soft muted neutral colors created an ambiance this home never even had in its heyday.  The residence was of a bygone era and it suddenly became the perfect family home for the next generation.  Happiness filled it with love and life.  See more images and video off my website.  Also check out the full gallery of “before and afters.
