The exterior facade of this home was so stunning. It exuded the affluent kind of charm you would expect to see in a New England college town. A fragrant archway of mature wisteria framed the walkway; shutters added such presence. Set amidst huge mansions on Seaview, it felt like a petite mansion in its own right.
For the interior I wanted to evoke the same emotions captured by such a charming exterior. The darkly colored walls had to be replaced by soft neutral shades giving the illusion of more light and creating a contemporary cohesive feel. The kitchen became my problem child as refinishing the fir sub floor was too extensive a task. My compromise was to paint it a rich gray (Platinum Gray by Benjamin Moore). I love this paint color in semigloss for floors as it transforms and enhances any setting.
Next, all the dated (not original to the house) light fixtures needed to be replaced with bright yet refined accents befitting such architecture. The greatest surprise, I think, was the finished attic which was softly carpeted and where I created a fabulous sitting room and bedroom overlooking the deep yard and inviting pool below. The height of the outlook from this level was captivating and the exquisite flowering trees were in bloom. This home just had a pedigree charm and I really wanted to bring that feeling out in every room. My clients requested lots of color for this property and at first I questioned that direction. To my surprise, it really worked — creating a fun and vibrant feel and all the elements to come together! A gorgeous family home on one of the most beautiful streets in Piedmont.
